What is Functional Training?

The focus of functional training to improve your quality of life. When your body doesn't move correctly, you are more likely to experience pain or injure yourself. A functional training program is personalized to the client to help improve movement efficiency, balance, flexibility, and strength.

Why start with Functional Training?
|
While it's tempting to jump into a intense cardio program or add loads immediately when you decide you have a goal of losing weight or getting healthy, you may be doing more damage than good. If your muscles are imbalanced and you begin training those muscles, you are just strengthening the dysfunction.
It's highly likely that, if you haven't already, you will begin to notice discomfort or pain in joints or experience overly tight muscles. Once this occurs, one of two things will happen:
The progression of the functional training program will be to first focus on function (mobility + stability), progress to health (movement training), and reaching our goal of fitness (load training). Cardio training will also be involved, beginning with aerobic base training. |
What does a Functional Training session involve?

First you will complete an initial consultation, where we will go over your healthy history, goals, and complete an assessment on your posture, movement, and flexibility. This first consultation will take about 45 minutes.
Then, depending on your personal assessment, we will begin our training program. In the beginning, your session may only compromise of correctional exercises and stretching. It's important to get the body moving correctly before adding loads and resistance. At the end of the session, you will be given instructions on the exercises to complete during the week and then return the following week to adjust or progress. As you master mobility and stability, you will then move on to movement training, and then begin adding loads (i.e. weights). |
What is the cost?

Sessions will be charged in one lump sum and include 4 sessions. Additional sessions may be added into each week at an additional and discounted cost. The first initial consultation is free and included in the first purchase of sessions.
